Nov 10, 1. Hi - I just found this forum and need some advice. I just bought a 95 with a DT with a 16' dump body on it for delivering firewood.

The truck seems to run well but has no power. It just dies on the hills, even empty. On some of the steeper hills on I91 in Vermont I was down to third gear and 35mph. It almost acts like its running at half throttle even though the pedal is down to the floor. In its past life the truck was a Ryder rental, would there have been something done by Ryder to limit the power output of this engine? I have a 79 with the same engine and it has way more power. The accelerator cable linkages seem to be in order, when the pedal is bottomed out the whatchamacallit on the injector pump is up against its stop, so its going through the complete range of motion.

According to the tach the max RPM is around Is this too low? The truck has K miles on it, but I don't think the engine is worn out because it fires right up even when cold. Starts better than the Anyway, that's most of the story, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this post and respond. Can someone give some ideas on what might be wrong. If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway. Pullin' wrenches for 45 years. Are there a place where you can find what these codes mean? There is no hose. Bad or plugged sensor or faulty wiring or maybe even a plugged exhaust. It was the MAP sensor. Someone put an oil pressure senson where the MAP sensor goes.

They look just alike but are different. We will need to keep these sensors marked better in our inventory. Mine was broken and the small fragment went thru the fuel passage and logged in the end of the fitting for fuel lift pump suction. The unit will run fine without it but you will not be able to use the hand primer pump.

School Bus Fleet Magazine Forums. We have a DTE that will only go around 15mph. If you press the button next to the diagnostic connector right after turning on the key it will give you any flash codes but first I would check for a ruptured CAC hose. Checked the flash code it is giving a and a code. The local IC or Navistar truck dealer sounds like a better option in this case.

We just had a similar problem on a dt engine there is a cross slot cap just over the fuel sediment bowl on the rear of the main fuel filter housing, remove the cap and extract the check ball from the hole check to see if it is all there.

I've replaced quite a few of those rubber check balls. This page was generated in 0. Snitz Forums Finding your next job can be tough. In our technology-driven world, applying for jobs online while in your PJs is a convenience that is hard to resist.

Joined: Mar 2, Messages: 19 Location: Yosemite. Few ideas. Check fuel pressure under load, should be around 60 psi. Check for fuel system restriction less than 4". There is a check ball on the top of the fuel filter prescreen housing, the updated check balls are yellow you can remove the plastic cover with a quarter.

You can check the fuel pressure regulator. Take the line off on the fuel tank side, you will need a way to catch the fuel. Start the engine, then shut it off.

Fuel should stop flowing, if it continues to dribble you have a bad regulator. More than once I have seen pieces of the rubber check ball in the presrceen filter stuck in the fuel pressure regulator. This may be why you have to crank the engine over to fill the fuel system. Another thing, make sure all the fuel sleeves rubber on your metal lines are in good shape, if not the system will draw in air.

Hope this helps. Last edited: Feb 27, Old JDFeb 27, Update to above post. The debris stuck in the regulators I have seen.

Can't be the check ball, it would have to go through the fuel filter. Not sure what it was, will have to check closer next time.Forums New posts Search forums. I have a international 5-ton truck with a DT and when it sits over night it is very hard to start. It cranks over and does not try to fire until i put either in it. When it starts it runs real rough for about 5 min until it warms up then it runs fine!! Tony wrench. I'd suspect one or more of the injectors of bleeding off over night and flooding the cylinder.

You'll need to do an injector cutout test to see if one of the injectors isn't firing. You can also use an infared thermometer on the exhaust manifold and possibly see which cylinder isn't firing, if that is the case. MikeM wrench. Check fuel pressure. If it is low the spring is bad in the reg on the back of the head, allowing the head to empty of fuel over night.

Also could be a leak on the return from back of head. There are square cut 0-rings in the fuel connections on supply side and return. They get hard and lose the seal. I would certainly start with checking the fuel pressure. Common problem, and could be costing you some power as well. John Kahrs Newbie.

I agree that you have leaking injector leaking down, or bad o-ring. It runs rough because the cylinder is flooded out. If you pulled an oil sample, it may show fuel dilution in the oil. Joined Sep 12, Messages 1 Points 0. Does the cutout test involve you taking out the injector and seeing if it sprays fuel? The cut out test is done through the computer.

If you don't have a scan tool for the engine, the you'll need to check the manifold temps, have the oil tested for fuel or find some who can do an injector cut out test on the injectors.Forums New posts Search forums. Thread starter jhead64 Start date Oct 19, I have a friend with a Intl DT no egr. For the last several months he has been losing oil. At first he had no idea where or how but in the last month he is now finding oil on the bottom rear of the motor.

He has been in the shop multiple times trying to get it fixed but still has the problem. He had his air compressor replaced, the dipstick tube replaced, still losing oil. The truck runs great, doesn't smoke, has aboutmiles on a new block. Fuel mileage is good, all is well except for the oil problem.

The odd thing is that when the mechanic tries to locate the source of the leak, he can't find it. He will power wash the motor and let it idle for four hours. No oil leak. He took it on a 50 mile test drive, no oil leak. My friend says that he fills it to the full mark. He will check it after miles and sometimes there is no change, but usually after or miles it will be down to the add mark. He says it never drops below the add mark.

He thinks its the rear main seal but the mechanic thinks its an engine problem.Log in or Sign up. Heavy Equipment Forums. Thank you for visiting HeavyEquipmentForums.

Dt466 oil leak mystery

Has the 6 plus 1 tranny. Put my 10 ton tag trailer behind it with my CAT C extenda hoe and I need to hit 4th before the top of the hill. This year I've been running dirt pilled high and I have to hit 4th to finish pulling the same hill.

I had about 2K miles on the fuel filter but chauged it out just to see if it would help, it did not help. It does a little chuging every so often under heavy load but not all the time and runs flat out with no load. Sure could use a few more ponies back, any ideas?

AllDodgeApr 19, Ive had several tandem dump trucks with engines. They had 8LL transmissions and like gears I didnt have to pull hills, but they were good engines, unless you were pulling a heavy load.

Dont pull out in front of anyone loaded, you may not get across Now to your problem, if I remember correctly they have a little fuel filter that doesnt look like a filter.
